Home Office as Primary Office
Even if you have an office located away from your home, you can still claim your home office. Is this legal? – Yes it is! IRS Publication 17 “If you have an office in your home that qualifies as a principal place of business, you can deduct your daily transportation costs between your home and another work location in the same trade or business.” Example: If you are using a vehicle that costs $40,000 to go to your away from home office, while using it 50 percent of the time for business, you are depreciating that vehicle $20,000! This could also be beneficial if you have multiple vehicles that you travel to your away from home office. |
